LSOAs can be broken down further into constituent Output Areas (OAs). OAs are the base building blocks of UK statistical geography, they have a minimum population size of 100. In Cumbria there are 1,714 OAs. Census and population datasets are available at OA level, so it can be useful to group OAs together to provide ‘best-fit’ estimates for these datasets in relation to non-standard geographies such as school catchment areas. However, the number of other datasets available at this level is limited.
