The Cumbria Primary Care Trust controls the budget for the NHS in Cumbria, and we are therefore responsible for making sure that all NHS services in Cumbria are provided. The trust buys (or ‘commissions’) services from other health providers, and is also responsible for providing health services in the community. These community health services are known as primary care services and are the services you normally access when you first have a health problem. The services we directly manage include all of the nine community hospitals in Cumbria. We commission all other NHS services in Cumbria from a range of providers, including GPs, dentists and the following health trusts:
We are also responsible for identifying the specific health needs of people in Cumbria and ensuring that these needs are met.
How does Cumbria PCT use the Cumbria Observatory Research and Analysis Group (CORAG)?
The PCT is starting to use CORAG as a knowledge network to share specialist information with partner organisations, and also produce some joint pieces of commissioned work such as the Strategic Needs Assessment work for Adults. The group is also going to be the main network for sharing information surrounding the Local Area Agreement targets with our partner organisations such as the County Council.
