The Indices of Deprivation (ID) are a key source of information published by Communities and Local Goverment (CLG). The Indices , produced in 2004 and 2007, are used to measure levels of deprivation using a range of indicators including economic, social and housing issues. The ID are combined to produce an overall Index of Multiple Deprivation score for areas in England. The areas are then ranked relative to one another according to their level of deprivation.
Using the data provided by CLG, Information and Intelligence Unit have produced various briefings and presentations together with a series of datasets, for both the Indices of Deprivation 2004 and the Indices of Deprivation 2007.
The data are available at the following geographical levels: National, District, Ward and Lower Super Output Area level (you can find out more about these geographical levels in the Geography section). Please note that the ward-level summary data are produced by Cumbria County Council (not CLG).
